Price information is primarily collected remotely, through phone communication and email. Contact visits are made periodically to verify price information and that quality assessment is accurate, unbiased and relevant to the report. Reporters reserve the right to exclude insignificant data sets and outliers that are not consistent with the majority of the trades. To ensure accuracy of these reports, reporters are recertified every two years.
This report contains price information on domestic trades of US wool. Wool is classed and graded based on USDA Grades and Standards. Price information is released by USDA’s Livestock, Poultry, and Grain Market News Division under the Voluntary Price Reporting authority of USDA’s Agriculture Marketing Service. This report is released weekly and will display national and regional weighted average prices for establish trades that meet confidentiality parameters over a two-week time period. Once a price is published, that price information is no longer used in the following week’s release to prevent duplication of data. The report also contains weekly updates of price information from the Australian Wool Exchange and Australian Wool Report that serves as a basis for much of the pricing in the United States.
