National Direct Sheep Report

Price information is collected remotely through phone communication and email correspondences with cattle dealers, backgrounders, feedlots, and producers. Contact visits are made periodically to verify price information and quality assessment is accurate, unbiased and relevant to the report. Dual party verification is used to verify trades, and reporters reserve the right to exclude any trades that cannot be verified. Reporters also reserve the right to exclude insignificant data sets (outliers) that are not consistent with the bulk of the trade. To ensure accuracy of these reports, reporters are recertified every two years.

This report is a weekly sheep report containing direct trades of feeder and replacement sheep/lambs. Sheep are classified and graded using official USDA feeder sheep/lamb standards and replacement sheep/lamb guidelines. Price information is released by USDA’s Livestock, Poultry, and Grain Market News Division under the Voluntary Price Reporting authority of USDA’s Agriculture Marketing Service. This report is a weighted average report.
