SF_LS769 Sioux Falls, SD Mon Oct 2, 2017 USDA-SD Dept of Ag Market News Sioux Falls Regional - Worthing, SD Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for 10/02/2017 Receipts: 3576 Last Week: 2144 Year Ago: 1082 Compared to last week: Steer and heifers calves sold with higher undertones in a narrow comparison to last week's light offering. Yearling steers sold mostly 2.00 to 7.00 higher, heifers mostly 1.00 to 6.00 higher. Demand was good overall for today's offering of spring born calves and mostly backgrounded yearlings. Flesh was heavier than last week, with majority of the cattle carrying moderate to moderate plus flesh condition. Active market, with both order buyers and farmer- feeders in town today looking to fill their yards. Cattle were carrying some extra mud and tag, as much of the local area received an inch or more of rain over the weekend. Spring born calves were mostly weaned and had received pre-conditioning shots. Slaughter cows Breaking and Boning Utility sold mostly steady with Wednesday's test, while Lean cows 4.00 higher. Bulls sold in a much lighter offering, with firm undertones noted. Feeder cattle receipts were 43 percent steers, 57 percent heifers; 74 percent weighing over 600 lbs. Offerings were 97 percent feeder cattle, balance slaughter cows and calves. Sale next Monday Oct 9th, with another large offering of yearlings and calves.
