Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for 10/17/2017

Compared to Thursday:  steer calves 450 to 700 lbs mostly steady 
except 600 to 650 2.00 to 3.00 lower.  Heifer calves 450 to 500 lbs 
2.00 higher, 501 to 600 lbs 3.00 lower.  Good demand for many 
packages and a handful of loads of calves offered today which sold on
a moderate to active market.  The majority of the calves were in 
moderate flesh and fully preconditioned.  Calves lacking their full 
vaccination series sold at the bottom of the price bracket.  
Quality slightly less attractive than Thursday with most of this 
offering being average to attractive in quality.  Bean harvest is 
wrapping up and corn harvest is getting started in this part of the 
country.  Steers made up 57 percent of the feeder supply, heifers 
43 percent, 31 percent over 600 lbs.  Next feeder cattle sale is 
Thursday, October 19, expecting 7000 feeders.  Feeder cattle sale 
on Tuesday, October 24, featuring Red Angus calves.
