SF_LS758 Sioux Falls, SD Thu Oct 12, 2017 USDA-SD Dept of Ag Market News Mitchell Livestock Auction Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for 10/12/2017 Receipts: 1716 Last Week: 2267 Year Ago: 1713 Compared to last week: Calves too narrowly compared to allow full, complete price comparisons. Higher undertones evident on steer calves, steady to higher undertone on heifer calves. Yearling feeder steers not well compared, yearling heifers 3.00 to 5.00 higher. Very good demand for yearling cattle. Flesh condition of yearlings was very uneven, most were in moderate to heavy flesh, yet a couple consignments offered in an attractive, light flesh condition. The market was very active on those cattle in light to moderate flesh, the heaviest fleshed found few outlets. Good demand for this light offering of calves, made up of small packages and half loads. Flesh condition of calves was very attractive for buyers. Most were fully preconditioned, some weaned. Feeder cattle offering was 42 percent steers, 58 percent heifers; 72 percent weighing over 600 lbs. Next week, Oct 19, expecting 1,500 head of feeder cattle starting at 9:30am.
