SF_LS758 Sioux Falls, SD Thu Oct 5, 2017 USDA-SD Dept of Ag Market News Mitchell Livestock Auction Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for 10/05/2017 Receipts: 2267 Last Week: 3455 Year Ago: NA Compared to last week: Steer and heifers calves were of different weights than seen last week. Yearling steers were mostly steady to 3.00 higher in a narrow comparisons; yealing heifers over 750 lbs steady to 3.00 higher with other weights not well compared. Demand was good for yearling cattle with best demand for those in light flesh and off of summer grazing programs, moderate demand at best for calves as yard conditions are very poor due to the recent rains. Flesh condition varied throughout the sale, with backgrounded yearlings and calves were carrying moderate to moderate plus flesh while yearlings off of grass were in light flesh condition. Majority of the calf offering had received at least one round of shots and were unweaned. Feeder cattle offering was 51 percent steers, 49 percent heifers; 85 percent weighing over 600 lbs. Sale next Thursday Oct 12th, expecting 1,500 head of feeder cattle.
