Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for 10/11/2017

   This was the first special black hided calf sale of the season,
no comparison available.  Very good demand for these strings of extremely
high quality calves.  The calves were preconditioned and very attractive.
Flesh condition ranged from light to moderate.  Many offered as full load
lots, and plenty of part-loads as well.  Best demand was for steers, as
was evidenced by the wide price spreads between them and their heifer mates.
CME futures contracts made large gains on Tuesday and posted little change
today, these gains on the board along with the advance in the fed cattle market
last week helped to support the feeder market.  20 percent over 600 lbs.
70 percent steers; 30 percent heifers.  Fri Oct. 13, 2017 expecting 600-800
yearlings and over 8,000 calves.  Wed. Oct. 18, special black hided calf sale
expecting 4,500-5,000 calves.
