Pierre, SD Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for 10/06/2017 Receipts: 6043 Last Week: 9244 Year Ago: 5385 Compared to last week: Steer calves under 600 lbs steady to 3.00 lower, instance of 10.00 lower on 450 lbs; over 600 lbs steady to 2.00 higher. Heifer calves steady with instances of 2.00 higher. Yearling feeder steers 2.00 to 3.00 higher. Yearling feeder heifers were difficult to compare as last week’s heifers were off grass, while this week featured both those off grass and those out of growing yards in a heavier flesh condition. Steady to 3.00 higher overall. Good demand for this nice offering of very attractive, high quality calves, both in load lots and for the part loads as well. Flesh condition of calves ranged from light to moderate plus. Very good demand for yearlings, whether they were off grass or out of yards, there was plenty of interest in both and the market was very active. Higher futures contracts again today helped to support the feeder cattle market at the auction. 47 percent over 600 lbs. 52 percent steers; 48 percent heifers. Next Wed Oct. 11 expecting 4,500 or more calves. Friday Oct 13 expecting 600 yearlings and 8,500 calves.
