Slaughter Cattle Auction

   Compared to last week:  Slaughter steers sold mostly steady to 1.00 higher,
heifers steady to 3.00 higher.  Holstein steers steady to 3.00 lower.  Demand
was moderate to good with both packer buyers and two-way buyers participating in
today's market.  Weighing conditions were attractive overall, with 14 loads of steers,
3.5 loads of heifers making up the bulk of the fed cattle supply.  Cattle that could
use additional days on feed to increase their grading percentage were returning to the
country as the December CME Contract closed with a 5.85 premium over the October CME 
Contract.  Choice Boxed Beef closed down 0.46 at 197.41; Select up 0.53 at 189.55 on
118 total loads traded. Cash Fed Cattle trade is very light on light demand for all
feeding regions; KS at 108.00, Southern Plains from 108.25-108.50.  Slaughter cows
Breaking Utility sold steady to 2.00 lower, Boning and Lean Cows steady to 3.00 higher
compared to Monday's test.  Bulls very lightly offered Monday, with firm undertones noted.
Fed cattle receipts were 77 percent steers, 23 percent heifers.  Offerings were 88 percent
fed cattle, balance slaughter cows and bulls.  

   Steers:  Choice 2-3  1407-1539 lbs 105.00-107.50.  Choice 3-4 1529-1570 lbs
105.50-106.25, pkg 1598 lbs 102.00; Qualifying for Natural Beef 1519-1559 lbs 
109.10-109.50.  Returning to the COuntry:  Select and Choice 2-3 1291-1388 lbs
106.75-109.85.  Select 2 1257-1298 lbs 108.00-109.50.

   Holstein Steers:  Choice 2-3 1335-1446 lbs 83.50-84.50, 1539-1584 lbs 81.00-85.50.
Select and Choice 2-3 1238-1411 lbs 79.00-83.50.

   Heifers:  Choice 2-4 1245-1440 lbs 105.00-107.75, Low Dressing 1245 lbs 104.00.
Returning to the Country:  Select and Choice 2-3 pkg 1188 lbs 107.50.
