Slaughter steers were quoted mixed from 6.00 lower to 3.00 higher. Choice steers averaged 104.31/cwt or 1.94/cwt lower than last week. Holstein steers were quoted steady to 2.00 lower. Choice Holstein steers averaged 83.63/cwt or 1.02/cwt lower than last week. Slaughter heifers were quoted steady to 2.00 higher. Choice heifers averaged 101.30/cwt or 1.51/cwt lower than last week. Choice Boxed Beef ended the week on the positive side again. Boxed beef was at 198.22/cwt or 1.00/cwt higher than last Friday. The futures market continued to improve this week. October futures were at 112.82/cwt or 1.80/cwt higher than last week. December futures were at 117.12 or 1.20/cwt higher. February futures ended the week at 121.07/cwt or .35/cwt higher. Slaughter cows were quoted mixed from 4.00 lower to 2.00 higher. Slaughter bulls sold 1.00-2.00 higher on another very light test. Holstein bull calves were quoted mixed from 25.00 lower to 20.00 higher for the week. Holstein heifer calves sold mixed from 20.00 lower to 30.00 higher. There was a Feeder Cattle sale in Greencastle on October 6th that wasn't included in last weeks report due to the late posting of the report. There was no trend reportedand prices are reported below. At Vintage this week, compared to last month's sale, Feeder steers sold sharply higher, 20.00-30.00 higher. Holstein steers sold mostly steady to 10.00 higher. Feeder Heifers sold mostly steady to 10.00 higher. Feeder Bulls sold 10.00-20.00 higher compared to a light test last month. Demand very good. Buyer attendance was good. At the New Holland Dairy sale this week, Fresh Holstein cows sold steady to 100.00 higher on a light test. Demand moderate. Springing Holsteins sold steady on a very light test. Not enough Holstein bulls for a market test. Bred Holstein heifers sold mostly steady to 100.00 lower on another light test. Open Holstein heifers sold mostly steady on a very light test. Buyer attendance was light today as the plain community observed St. Michales day. Compared to last week's sale, Slaughter barrows and gilts sold sold 4.00-5.00 higher. Demand good. Sows sold 1.00-2.00 higher on a very light test. Demand moderate. Boars sold firm on a very light test. Compared to a last week, Slaughter Sheep not reported due to Columbus Day Holiday. Slaughter Kids sold mostly steady. Slaughter Nannies sold 10.00-20.00 higher on a light test. Bucks sold mostly steady. Slaughter Wethers sold firm compared to a light test last week. Demand was moderate. All cattle are sold per cwt, with the exception of dairy replacement cattle which are sold by the head. All hogs and pigs are sold per cwt.
