Joplin Regional Stockyards-Carthage
Replacement Cow (Monthly) 9/14/17

   A near full house on hand for the Joplin Regional Stockyards Special Cow 
and Bull sale. Included in the offering were several dispersals and large 
lots of bred cows and cow/calf pairs. Much of the offering although good 
quality were thin fleshed and perhaps a little lower body condition than what 
might be desirable this close to feeding season. Much of the area has been 
short on moisture until recently not allowing for fall pastures to be as lush 
and green as producers would like. This has undoubtedly affected the condition 
of most herds and has producers a bit reluctant to add numbers with no surplus 
pasture. The offering included 28 percent bred cows and heifers, 45 percent 
cow/calf pairs, 6 percent breeding bulls, 7 percent open heifers and about 14 
percent were slaughter cows. Demand was moderate for all classes of replacement 
cattle represented in the sale.

   Bred Cows:  Medium and Large 1  pkg 1 1/2 yrs 2nd and 3rd stage 1000-1050 lbs
1450.00; 3-6 yrs 2nd and 3rd stage 1050-1400 lbs 1400.00-1550.00.  Medium and 
Large 1-2  1 1/2-2 yrs 2nd and 3rd stage 950-1100 lbs 1050.00-1275.00; 3-7 yrs 
2nd and 3rd stage 1050-1500 lbs 1050.00-1450.00, pkg 1st stage 1200.00; 7 yrs 
to short and solid mouth 2nd and 3rd stage 1100-1400 lbs 1000.00-1150.00, pkg 
1st stage 850.00; few short and solids to aged 2nd and 3rd stage 1000-1250 lbs

   Cow/Calf Pairs:  Medium and Large 1-2  3-5 yrs 1050-1400 lb cows most 
w/babies to 200 lb calves few with calves up to 400 lbs and short bred 
1600.00-1800.00; 6 yrs to aged 1000-1400 lb cows w/babies to 200 lb calves 
1075.00-11250.00. Medium and Large 2  4-7 yrs 1000-1250 lb cows w/babies to 
250 lb calves 1300.00-1600.00; 7 yrs to aged 1000-1250 with baby to 200 lbs 
calves 950.00-1100.00 per pair.

Replacement Bulls:  Medium and Large 1  1 1/2-2 yrs 1100-1600 lbs 2000.00-
2500.00, ind 3200.00; 3-4 yrs 1400-1800 lbs 1900.00-2100.00, ind 2300.00.
