Yearling heifers were too lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend, however steady to firm undertones were noticed. Demand for calves was mostly moderate. Quality this week was average to very attractive. With CME positions showing some weakness over the last week buyers backed off prices slightly. Transportation has also become a slight issue as trucks are hard to find. Buyers were able to piece together full loads of fully preconditioned calves. These offerings sold with the best demand no matter the weight. Flesh conditions have been light to moderate as many calves are coming out of dry country. Very good demand was seen for long strings of replacement quality heifers today. Market activity was mostly active and the sale move along quickly. Weigh up cows sold on mostly light demand for light offerings. Slaughter cows were too lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend, however lower undertones were noticed. The majority of cows are destined for a feed yard as heavy supplies have packers only harvesting cows that can’t be fed. High quality feeding cows were limited, however lower undertones were noticed. Slaughter bulls were too lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend, however lower undertones were noticed. The feeder cattle offering was 57 percent steers and bulls 43 percent heifers with 24 percent weighing over 600 lbs. Today’s supply consisted of 91 percent feeder cattle, 1 percent slaughter cows, less than 1 percent slaughter bulls, 5 percent feeding cows and bulls and cows returning to the country, balance bred cows, heifers, and pairs. Next sale will be Monday October 23th 2017.
