BL_LS751 ***Correction to steers and heifers Calves comment*** Billings, MT Mon Oct 16, 2017 USDA Market News Billings Livestock Commission Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for 10/16/2017 Receipts: 1,993 Last Week: 993 Year Ago: NA Compared to last Monday: Feeder cattle receipts were all too lightly tested last week to develop any market trend. Demand for feeder cattle was uneven. Market activity was slow. Weigh up cows sold on mostly light to moderate demand for heavy offerings. Packers purchased mostly lower quality, very thin or lame cows for harvest. These cows sold mostly 4.00-6.00 lower. Feeding cows sold steady to 5.00 lower. High quality feeding cows sold fully steady, however quality this week was not as attractive as last week. Slaughter bulls were too lightly tested last week to develop any market trend. 2 year old to young age cows suitable to rebreed sold mostly firm. The feeder cattle offering was 40 percent steers and bulls 60 percent heifers with 14 percent weighing over 600 lbs. Today’s supply consisted of 40 feeder cattle, 14 percent slaughter cows, 1 percent slaughter bulls, 30 percent feeding cows and bulls and cows returning to the country, balance bred cows, heifers, and pairs.
