BL_LS751 Billings, MT Mon Oct 9, 2017 USDA Market News Billings Livestock Commission Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for 10/09/2017 Receipts: 993 Last Week: NA Year Ago: NA Compared to last week: Receipts were very light last Monday and this market was not reported. Comparisons are to last Thursday’s sale. Feeder cattle were all too lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend, however steady undertones were noticed. Feeder cattle sold on good to very good demand on very light offerings. Quality was average to attractive. Market activity was mostly moderate to active. Weigh up cows sold on mostly good demand for moderate to heavy offerings. Packer buyers purchased slaughter cows sold mostly 1.00-2.00 lower than Thursday as they opted to feed many of the higher quality cows they purchased. Cow quality this week was mostly attractive with many high quality long strings of cows seen from reputation ranches. Feeding cows sold on mostly good to very good demand. Feeding cows were too lightly tested on Thursday to develop an accurate market trend, however higher undertones were notice. Slaughter bulls were too lightly tested to develop any market trend. Several sets of bred cows were on offer this sale, these offeringswere met with mostly moderate to good demand as quality was mostly attractive. The feeder cattle offering was 76 percent steers and bulls 24 percent heifers with 0 percent weighing over 600 lbs. Today’s supply consisted of 25 feeder cattle, 14 percent slaughter cows, 3 percent slaughter bulls, 38 percent feeding cows and bulls and cows returning to the country, balance bred cows, heifers, and pairs. Next sale will be Thursday Oct 12th, 2017.
