BL_LS750 Billings, MT Fri Oct 13, 2017 USDA Market News Public Auction Yards- Billings, MT Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for 10/13/2017 Receipts: 2,522 Last Week: 1,345 Year Ago: 2,136 Compared to last Friday: Steer calves weighing less than 450 lbs were too lightly tested last week, however higher undertones were noticed; 450-549 lbs steers sold generally steady to 5.00 higher, steer calves weighing over 550 lbs sold mostly 5.00-10.00 higher. Yearling steer calves were too lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend, however higher undertones were noticed. Heifer calves weighing less than 400 lbs were too lightly tested last week to develop an accurate market trend, however steady to firm undertones were noticed; heifers 400-549 lbs sold mostly 2.00-4.00 higher, heifer calves weighing more than 550 lbs sold mostly 5.00-8.00 higher. All yearling heifers were too lightly tested to develop an accurate market trend, however steady to firm undertones were noticed. Quality this sale was mostly average to attractive. Demand was mostly moderate to good, with the best demand seen for lightweight calves weighing less than 435 lbs and heavyweight calves weighing more than 575 lbs. Market activity was moderate to active. Weigh up cows sold on mostly good demand for very light offerings. All weigh up offerings were too lightly tested to develop any market trend. Feeder cattle receipts were 64 percent steers, 36 percent heifers; 18 percent weighing over 600 lbs. Offerings were 94 percent feeder cattle, 2 percent slaughter cows, less than half of one percent slaughter bulls, 1 percent feeding cows and cows returning to the country, balance bred cows, heifers, and pairs.
