BL_LS750 Billings, MT Wed Oct 4, 2017 USDA Market News Public Auction Yards- Billings, MT Feeder Cattle Weighted Average Report for 10/04/2017 Receipts: 1,067 Last Week: 644 Year Ago: 949 Compared to last week: Feeder cattle were too lightly tested both this week and last week to develop an accurate market trend, however firm undertones were noticed on all feeders on offer. Feeder cattle sold on mostly moderate demand and light offerings. Quality this week was mostly plain to average on all feeder cattle on offer. All feeder cattle were offered in small packages, which forced buyers to piece together offerings. Market activity was moderate. Weigh up cows sold on mostly good demand for moderate offerings. Packer buyers were very agressive in procureing offerings this week as they pushed offerings well over where most feeding buyers wished to purchase cows. Slaughter cows sold steady to mostly 2.00 higher. Feeding cows sold steady to firm in a narrow compairson. Cow quality this week was average to attractive. Weigh up conditions were mostly in the sellers favor as many cows were pushing fill. Slaughter bulls sold unevenly steady as yielding conditions were mixed this week on a larger offering. 2-3 year olds suitable to rebreed sold on very good demand with many buyers looking for this class of cattle. 2-3 year old rebreed type cows sold sharply higher this week. Feeder cattle receipts were 61 percent steers and bulls, 39 percent heifers; 6 percent weighing over 600 lbs. Offerings were 45 percent feeder cattle, 26 percent slaughter cows, 4 percent slaughter bulls, and 19 percent feeding cows and cows returning to the country, balance bred cows, heifers, and pairs. Next sale will be Wednesday Oct 4th, 2017.
