BL_LS350 Billings, MT Mon Oct 16, 2017 USDA Market News Public Auction Yards Sheep & Goat Report Weighted Average Report for 10/16/2017 Receipts: 3,148 Last Week: 5,644 Year Ago: 2,599 Compared to last week (Oct 9th): Feeder lambs weighing less than 70 lbs sold mostly steady to 5.00 higher, 70-109 lbs lambs sold unevenly steady, lambs heavier than 110 lbs sold mostly steady to 5.00 lower. Demand for lambs was uneven throughout the sale. Offerings were light to moderate. Farmer feeders were very selective as they bid on offerings this sale purchasing lambs with weigh up and body condition in their favor. Feeder lamb quality was average to attractive. Weigh up conditions on lambs were mixed, however several offerings of lighter fleshed lambs were seen from northern Montana, where weather conditions have greened lambs. Market activity this sale was mostly moderate. Slaughter ewes were very lightly tested last sale, however higher undertones were noticed on all offerings. Ethnic demand helped fleshy ewes sell with the best demand. Demand for feeding ewes was mostly good again this sale. Slaughter kids sold mostly steady to 10.00 higher this sale. Sheep receipts were 7 percent slaughter ewes and bucks, near 1 percent slaughter lambs, 89 percent feeder lambs, balance ewes returning to the country and breeding stock. Goat receipts were 75 percent slaughter kids, 16 percent slaughter nannies, balance billies, weathers and replacement goats. Sheep comprised 95 percent of all receipts while goat comprised 5 percent. All sheep and goats sold on a per cwt basis unless otherwise noted. Next sale is October 30th 2017.
