BL_LS350 Billings, MT Mon Oct 9, 2017 USDA Market News Public Auction Yards Sheep & Goat Report Weighted Average Report for 10/09/2017 Receipts: 5,867 Last Sale(Sept 25): 5,644 Year Ago: 2,631 Compared to sale (Sept 25th): Feeder lambs 50-79 lbs sold mostly 8.00-12.00 lower, 80-129 lbs lambs sold mostly 10.00-14.00 lower. Demand for feeder lambs was mostly light to moderate. Farmer feeders provided some support to lighter lambs this sale pushing traditional market lambs buyers to bid higher to acquire offerings. Offerings were moderate to heavy. Feeder lamb quality was average to very attractive with several long strings of very high quality lambs on offer. Weigh up conditions on lambs were mostly attractive to buyers. Market activity this sale was mostly slow to moderate. Slaughter ewes were very lightly tested this sale as the majority of the ewe offering are returning to the country to feed. Slaughter ewes sold 3.00-5.00 lower on good ewes, while utility and cull ewes sold mostly 3.00 lower. All ewe comparisons are narrow. Demand for feeding ewes was mostly good this sale with many buyers looking for offerings to fit their needs. Slaughter kids sold mostly 10.00-20.00 lower this sale. Quality was average to attractive. Sheep receipts were 4 percent slaughter ewes and bucks, near 2 percent slaughter lambs, 67 percent feeder lambs, balance ewes returning to the country and breeding stock. Goat receipts were 70 percent slaughter kids, 14 percent slaughter nannies, 9 percent feeding kids, balance billies, weathers and replacement goats. Sheep comprised 96 percent of all receipts while goat comprised 4 percent. All sheep and goats sold on a per cwt basis unless otherwise noted. Next sale is October 16th 2017.
