Some plants in the North are noting milk intakes up 3 to 5% from year ago levels. With the sudden drop in milk price, some farmers in the Midwest have supplemented cash flow by buying more cows, adding to production. Class I demand is steady. Reports show that ice cream manufacturers are starting production earlier than expected this year. Class II demand is steady. Spot sales are ranging from class to $1.00 under. Manufacturers are reporting cream is available. Cream multiples moved lower this week, ranging from 1.10 to 1.24. According to DMN National Retail Report- Dairy, the national weighted average advertised price for the week of February 6 through February 12 for a gallon of milk was $2.99 compared to $2.87 a year ago and $3.40 a week ago.
