MD_DA811 DA MD DA811 Cheese - Foreign Type MADISON, WI. August 24, 2016 (REPORT 34) FOREIGN TYPE CHEESE The tight supply situation for cheese in the EU is not expected to significantly ease in the near term. Recent reports show that June 2016 milk production fell below June 2015 levels. Cheese manufacturers do not expect that increased milk supplies will become available for making cheese in the near term. This will keep supplies tight and put upward pressure on prices. Nevertheless, through June this year, EU cheese exports increased 14% over the same period of 2015 according to Eurostat. The top three export destinations for the period this year are: U.S.A. +4%; Japan +11%; and Switzerland +4%. In the U.S., wholesale domestic blue, gorgonzola, parmesan and Romano cheese prices increased $0.0250 following higher weekly average CME Group block prices. The remaining prices are unchanged.
