April 06, 2016 (REPORT 14) FOREIGN TYPE CHEESE Cheese production in the EU remains at higher levels than one year ago to accommodate milk intakes. Milk production is seasonally increasing and is above levels one year ago. The EU private storage scheme subsidizes cheese storage costs until market conditions are more favorable for sale. Implemented in October 2015, the program lasts until September 30, 2016, or until 100,000 MT have been entered into the program. Eucolait reports volumes entered into the program since February 2016 total 18,869 MT, with top nations utilizing the program including cheese from Italy, accounting for 11.743 MT; Sweden 2.126 MT; Ireland 2.000 MT; UK 1.751 MT; and Netherlands 796 MT. Wholesale domestic blue, gorgonzola, parmesan and Romano cheese prices decreased $0.0225 following lower weekly average CME Group block prices, Swiss declined $0.0800 following the Class III price adjustment last week, while the remaining prices are unchanged.
