Although milk production has slowed somewhat in parts of the West, most manufacturers report milk and cream are available for butter production. Manufacturers are focusing processing on meeting current contracts. Consumer butter demand continues to be good. Some processors continue to sell a few loads of cream. The seasonal increase in ice cream production is using some of this excess cream. The DMN National Retail Report - Dairy for the week June 12 - 18, found that the U.S. weighted average advertised price of 1# butter is $3.31, up $.26 from one week ago and up $.07 from one year ago. In the Southwest the weighted average advertised price for 1# butter was $3.53 with a price range of $2.99 - $3.99, and in the Northwest, $3.43 with a price range of $2.00 - $3.99. Bulk butter pricing in the West this week is 4 cents under market to 5 cents above, based on the CME Group with various time frames and averages used.
