MD_DA431 DA MD DA431 BUTTER - CENTRAL MADISON, WI. June 24, 2015 (Report 25) CENTRAL BUTTER Butter production in the Central region is trending lower. Some butter producers report they are running into competition from Class II manufacturers for local cream supplies as ice cream/frozen dessert production gears up. Butter inventories vary from plant to plant. Some manufacturers indicate inventories are growing as planned, ahead of the summer, when cream supplies usually tighten. However, the recent price decline at the CME Group has injected some uncertainty into the churn and hold strategy. According to the DMN National Retail Report- Dairy, for June 19 - 25, the national weighted average advertised price for a 1 pound package of butter price is $3.11, a 20 cent decrease from last week and 13 cents lower than a year ago. Regionally, the weekly average prices and changes from the prior week were: Midwest, $2.91, -85 cents; South Central, $2.98, +1 cent. Bulk butter prices are at market to 5 cents over the market, based on the CME Group and various indices. The Grade AA butter price at the CME Group closed Wednesday at $1.8800, declining 6 cents on Tuesday and 1.75 cents on Wednesday. 1500CT Janet.Linder@ams.usda.gov 608.5577003 USDA/AMS/Dairy Market News, Madison, Wisconsin Dairy Market News website: www.ams.usda.gov/dairymarketnews Dairy Market News database portal: http://www.marketnews.usda.gov/mnp/da- home
