April 1, 2015 (Report 13) CENTRAL BUTTER Demand for print butter was strong this year for Easter/Passover, but churning operators have now wrapped up production. Some manufacturers are making butter to store for future needs. Inventory levels are mixed. Cream supplies are tight as ice cream production has increased. Export demand is light at current global pricing levels. Bulk butter prices range from market to 6 cents over the market, based on the CME Group and various indices. Bulk butter stocks are mixed, with some manufacturers reporting levels the same as a year ago. According to the DMN National Retail Report- Dairy, for March 27-April 2, the weighted average advertised price for a 1 lb. package of butter in the Midwest was $2.30, with a range of $1.87-2.59. The national weighted average price is $2.69, a 34 cent decrease from last week and 5 cents lower than a year ago.
