June 10, 2015 (REPORT 23) NORTHEAST WHOLESALE CHEESE: Manufacturers are maintaining extended production schedules to process near peak milk supplies. Demand for processed cheese is improving, as seasonal orders boost sales. Cheddar producers are primarily moving supplies to aging programs. The market is unsettled. Northeast wholesale cheese prices for cheddar and muenster rose $0.0650 and process 5# climbed $0.0525. The Grade A Swiss price increased $0.0100, due to lagging adjustments based on the Class III component prices. According to the DMN National Retail Report-Dairy, for the week of June 5-11, the weighted average advertised price for 8 oz. cheese blocks in the Northeast is $2.41, 3 cents more than the national average and 1 cent more than a week ago. The Southeast 8 oz. block cheese price is $2.38, 42 cents more than the previous week. At the CME Group, Tuesday's daily cash price saw barrels close at $1.6725, down $0.0475 from a week ago; blocks closed at $1.7250, down $0.0450 from a week ago. The Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) reports that April 2015 U.S. cheese and curd exports totaled 69.8 million pounds, a 6% decline from a year ago.
