The capacity of some plants to handle heavier milk intakes is being tested. Current cheese supplies are held with confidence. Interest is fair to good. The market undertone is mixed as cheese prices tend to fluctuate. Northeast wholesale cheese prices moved higher. Cheddar and muenster rose $0.0325 and process 5# climbed $0.0175. The Grade A Swiss price is steady. According to the DMN National Retail Report-Dairy, for the week of May 29-June 4, the weighted average advertised price for 8 oz. cheese blocks in the Northeast is $2.40, 17 cents more than the national average, and 9 cents more than a week ago. The Southeast 8 oz. block cheese price is $1.96, 39 cents less than the previous week. The CME Group monthly average for cheese blocks in May 2015 was $1.6308, compared to $2.0155 last year; cheese barrels averaged $1.6250, compared to $1.9985 one year ago. At the CME Group, Tuesday's daily cash price saw barrels close at $1.7200, up $0.1100 from a week ago; blocks closed at $1.7700, up $0.1200 from a week ago.
