LACTOSE - CENTRAL AND WEST                                                      

Industry participants describe the lactose market as lackluster. Prices held 
steady this week. F.O.B. spot sales activity was light. However, industry 
contacts say there have been a growing number of inquiries. Manufacturers 
have been able to maintain buyer interest, but often through aggressive 
pricing. Lactose inventories are generally long across the industry. A few 
processors report tight or committed stocks.
