DRY WHOLE MILK - NATIONAL                                        
                                                                                                                                  
Prices for national dry whole milk are mixed. Some Q3 contracts 
based on exports pushed down the bottom of the range. On the 
other hand, some Q3 contracts based on domestic sales pulled up 
the top of the range. Some manufacturers are trying to compete 
with the lower international prices, dropping prices at or close 
to the bottom of the price range. According to some industry 
participants, the domestic market undertone is balanced in the 
East and Central region, but unsettled in the West. Production is 
trending lower. Inventories vary from plant to plant. This week, 
a cooperative export assistance program accepted requests for 
440,925 pounds of dry whole milk. So far this year, the program 
has accepted assistance requests for 20.847 million pounds of dry 
whole milk.
