Production rates are holding as steady cheese output develops liquid whey streams. Contracted customers are reported being offered additional loads of dry whey. As a result, sale prices can be negotiated for volume transactions. Dry whey inventories are steady to building. Interest is at normal seasonal levels, specifically, as a filler in the production of ice cream. Some sources describe the market as having a comfortable undertone. The May 2017 DMN monthly average price of dry whey in the Northeast is $0.4845 compared to $0.2398 one year ago. DAIRY PRODUCTS: According to NASS, April 2017 U.S. human food dry whey production totaled 82.6 million pounds, 2.8 percent more than a year ago, but 3.1 percent less than the previous month. The Atlantic region's production of human food dry whey in April 2017 totaled 22.1 million pounds, 2.7 percent more than a year ago, but 0.3 percent below the previous month. F.O.B.
