Production has remained steady and comparable to cheese production. Some manufacturers continue to choose to dry whey as opposed to whey protein concentrates. Inventories of dry whey are heavy, but even. The DMN monthly average of the mostly price series for West Dry Whey during August was $0.2864 compared to $0.3936 one month ago and $0.6676 a year ago. NASS reports that July 2015 U.S. human whey production, 79.7 million pounds, is up 9.6% from a year ago but down 4.9% from June. The Western region produced 18.4 million pounds of U.S. edible dry whey during July. Western edible dry whey production this July is up 13.4% from last year but down 8.8% from June this year.
