MD_DA350 DA MD DA350 Dry Buttermilk (Central and East) MADISON, WI. April 21, 2016 (REPORT 16) DRY BUTTERMILK - CENTRAL AND EAST CENTRAL: Central dry buttermilk prices are lower as various indices adjust lower and manufacturers offer lower spot prices to manage inventories. Production is steady as cream clearing into butter is active. Class II end users are channeling condensed buttermilk directly into some production facilities. This is decreasing the volumes clearing through some regional dryers. Inventories are steady to building. For some manufacturers who use dry buttermilk internally, inventories are growing along projected trend lines. EAST: Prices for Eastern dry buttermilk are lower on f.o.b. spot sales. This week, production of dry buttermilk is mostly steady, with slight declines in output for manufacturers performing maintenance activities. Trading is light and limited mostly to contract purchases with a few spot sales transacted periodically. Producers appear comfortable with expanding inventories; warmer ensuing weather will encourage stronger demand as ice cream production improves seasonally. Meanwhile, buyers are searching the market for competitive offerings for hand-to-mouth dry buttermilk needs. The market undertone is weak. F.O.B.
