September 10, 2015 (REPORT 36) DRY BUTTERMILK - CENTRAL AND EAST CENTRAL: Prices for Central dry buttermilk are higher on a firmer market. Availability of dry buttermilk is limited within the region. Several manufacturers indicate the current decline in butter production is also limiting their ability to rebuild dry buttermilk inventories. Contract commitments are being fulfilled, but f.o.b. spot activity is light. The DMN monthly average of the range price series for Central and East dry buttermilk during August was $.7846, compared to $1.5813 a year ago. EAST: Eastern dry buttermilk prices are trending higher in a firming market. Post-holiday buttermilk production is limited as cream supplies circumvent butter churns. In general, supplies are being reported as tight. Producers' stocks are light to moderate and mostly committed. Domestic buying interest remains sluggish. The August 2015 Dairy Market News monthly average for the Central/East dry buttermilk series is $0.7846 compared to $1.5813 last year. DAIRY PRODUCTS: According to NASS, U.S. production of dry buttermilk during July 2015 totaled 6.0 million pounds, 20.2% less than a year ago, and 9.5% less than the previous month. Month ending stocks were 14.4 million pounds, 9.9% less than a year ago, and 33.5% less than the previous month. F.O.B.
