SKIM MILK POWDER (SMP):  

       European skim milk powder prices slightly firmed. Within Europe 
there was slight weakening of prices in France, while German and 
Dutch prices slightly strengthened. Short term buying interest and 
activity has increased. While a number of buyers have attempted to 
secure longer term contracts at current pricing, manufacturers are 
less inclined to close such deals. Some will, but others will not. 
European manufacturers are challenged to move much production into 
exports.
       Western European SMP exports January-February this year were 
4.8% lower than last year according to Eucolait. Export volumes and 
primary destinations are shown in the following table:
